Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Verdant Finance ("the Service"), a personal finance platform operated by Verdant Finance ("we," "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

Verdant Finance is a personal finance management tool that provides:

  • Envelope-style budgeting with category tracking and goal setting
  • Bank account syncing via Plaid for automatic transaction import
  • Investment portfolio tracking with holdings and live price data
  • Net worth tracking across assets (real estate, vehicles, accounts) and liabilities
  • Reports, insights, and financial health indicators

2. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.

3. Subscription and Payment

The Service is available on a paid subscription basis. Subscription fees are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods.

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice. Price changes will not apply until your next billing cycle after the notice period.

4. Bank Account Connections

The Service uses Plaid Inc. to connect to your financial institutions. When you connect a bank or brokerage account:

  • You authorize Plaid to access your account information on your behalf
  • You acknowledge that Plaid's End User Privacy Policy governs Plaid's handling of your data
  • You can disconnect any bank connection at any time from Settings
  • We do not have access to your bank login credentials -- Plaid handles authentication directly

5. Your Data

You retain ownership of all financial data you provide to the Service, whether entered manually or imported via bank sync. We store your data to provide the Service and do not claim any ownership rights over it.

You may delete your data at any time by removing individual accounts, transactions, or by deleting your entire account. See our Privacy Policy for details on data retention and deletion.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to access other users' data or accounts
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service except through our documented APIs
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without our written permission

7. Financial Disclaimer

The Service is a financial tracking and budgeting tool, not a financial advisor.

  • We do not provide investment advice, tax advice, or financial planning services
  • Insights, spending pace indicators, and net worth calculations are informational only
  • Investment prices displayed may be delayed; real-time prices are sourced from third-party providers and may not reflect current market conditions
  • Vehicle depreciation estimates are approximate calculations, not professional appraisals
  • You should consult a qualified financial professional before making financial decisions

8. Accuracy of Data

We strive to display accurate financial data, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of information received from banks, brokerages, or price data providers. Discrepancies between the Service and your actual account balances should be resolved by checking with your financial institution directly.

We provide reconciliation tools to help you verify that your account balances in the Service match your bank statements.

9. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Service available 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of planned downtime.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
  • We are not liable for any financial losses resulting from decisions made based on data displayed in the Service
  • We are not liable for losses caused by inaccurate data from third-party providers (banks, Plaid, Finnhub)
  • Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim

11. Termination

You may cancel your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Upon termination:

  • Your access to the Service will end
  • Your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy
  • Any remaining subscription period will not be refunded

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice in the app at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alaska, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of the State of Alaska.
